The dedicated Cyclist Tunnel links the National Cycle Network Routes 14 (South Shields to Darlington) and 72 Hadrian’s Cycleway (South Shields to Ravenglass in Cumbria).
It is also part of NCN1 which runs from Dover to the Shetland Isles, which in turn forms part of EuroVelo12 from Bergen in Norway to the Shetlands.
The cycling infrastructure around the Tunnel is improving year-on-year, making commuting by bike a viable option for many workers.
There are good cycle links to the Cobalt Business Park in North Tyneside. South Tyneside Council is investing more than £1 million on a new cycleway linking the Tunnel to the new International Advanced Manufacturing Park near Nissan.
