IMPORTANT UPDATE – 2.20pm Tuesday 3 January 2023
Due to an issue with one of the lifts, the Tyne Pedestrian and Cyclist Tunnels are currently closed to all users.
Engineers have assessed the situation today (Tuesday 3 January) and have advised that a part is required to resolve the issue. They have therefore advised the closure could run until Monday 9 January.
A replacement bus service will operate during the closure from 6am until 10pm each day. The free service will run regularly between Howdon and Jarrow, and will operate with a bike trailer to assist tunnel users.
