We know that tunnel users are eager to see the glass inclined lifts be brought into operation and we remain committed to opening the new lifts for users to enjoy as soon as we are able to.
Before coming into operation the lifts will go through a period of testing and certification and while we do not have a fixed date for the opening just yet, work on the inclined lifts is ongoing and we can assure users that we will be bringing them into service as soon as possible this year. This is the final outstanding element of the full refurbishment which has seen all elements of the tunnel upgraded to a high standard with particular care taken to protect heritage features of the tunnels.
As soon as we have a date from the contractors we will provide a further update. Whilst we are waiting for the glass lifts to be completed the vertical lifts are operating as normal and the tunnels are now open 24 hours each day for active travel free of charge.
